Book Club: Politics and Literature: Novels for the New Century - Marie Darrieussecq: „Unser Leben in den Wäldern“

Caponeu event

20.11.2024 - 20.11.2024

In contrast to the first meeting, where the conversation was less presuppositional or the comments were formulated in such a way that fewer assumptions were made, at this second meeting, significantly more literature and scholarly references were used. The discussion became a little more heated - one reason for this could be the dystopian genre itself, which drives readers to explore alternative scenarios for building a new society, or perhaps more likely to reject any alternatives. Somehow we believe this was due to the book itself, which for some was a remarkable piece of political fiction and for others disappointingly empty of future prospects. At this meeting we also discovered dystopian elements of the novel discussed at the first meeting (Natasha Brown's Assembly). Interestingly, these were barely mentioned at the time and only reappeared in comparison to this other novel.
